Clear Channel Radio signs a national advertising contract with Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless will be the first sponsor of Clearchannels HD2 multicast stations. These high-definition digital radio multicasts will stream on over 20 HD radio stations in both online and on-air formats. Through multicasting technology, a single radio station can now broadcast numerous digital signals that can be picked up using special receivers.
Verizon New Music, which is what the programming will be called, will air on Clear Channel Radio’s stations in top markets, including Los Angeles. Verizon New Music had had favorable reviews and will feature blocks of songs and interviews with hot new artists, Clear Channel officials say. Financial terms of this new contract were not disclosed.
Clear Channel Radio was a founding member of the HD Digital Radio Alliance, which is a joint initiative that is still even today backed by some of the country’s leading radio broadcasters to accelerate the development of HD Digital Radio. Today, Clear Channel has almost 800 HD2 stations in all nationwide.
