HD Radio Review

Radio Industry Revenues Continue to Decrease in 2008;

By the end of calendar year 2008, the radio industry, including HD digital radio, will have experienced its second year of negative revenue growth by tripling station revenue losses to almost -7 percent. This is according to the estimates of BIA Advisory Services, which is a leading strategic and financial consulting firm serving the media and communications industries.

Based upon its reviews, BIA now estimates that radio station revenues will hit about $16.7 billion during 2008, which is the lowest in more than five years and is the beginning of a downward spiral that may go as low as $15 billion next year before possibly rebounding during the next decade. Some of the rebound will be from the anticipated growth of HD radio and digital services. Investing In Radio Market Report illustrates that revenue percentages will fall another 9-11 percent during 2009, yet there will be a chance for positive growth by 2010.

Radio’s future health relies heavily on its embrace of mobile technologies and new media, as well as local advertisers.
