HD radio may be required with Sirius, according to FCC
Reviving an issue that had appeared to be settled weeks ago, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) may still require the merged XM-Sirius satellite radio company to have to include software and hardware that makes their satellite radios compatible with HD terrestrial digital radio broadcasts. In a Notice of Inquiry, the FCC is attempting to inviting reviews and comments from the companies and public that may be affected, including consumers and manufacturers of satellite radios.
The news comes just a few weeks after the FCC voted strictly along party lines to allow the satellite radio merger to proceed, and the merger has recently closed.
